Bud was born Thursday, June 29, 1939, in Flint, a son of the late Cletus Higgins and Geneva Hoover Higgins. On July 7, 1959, in Oakland, MD, he married the former Carole Jeane Hyson who survives.

Also left to cherish Bud’s memory are three children, Deborah “Debbie” McDonald and husband Jayson of Belington, Loretta “Jeannie” Bertolini and husband Roger of Elkins, and Robert “Robbie” Clay Higgins of Elkins, seven grandchildren, Roger “Dub” Channell, Rebecca Channell, Kathy Sandy, Bethany Jo Hill and husband Levi, Parker, Liam and Ana McDonald, one great-grandchild, the light of his life, Paislee Ann Sandy, three siblings, Donald Higgins and wife Judy, Carris Ann Griffith, and Betty Jo Bennett and husband Rick, all of Elkins, one dog, Cubby, and one cat, Honey.

Preceding Bud in death besides his parents were seven siblings, Carrie Bell Markley, Carlton, Chester, Paul, Paula, Donna, and Ronald Higgins.

Bud grew up in a logging camp and attended the schools of Randolph County. At the age of thirteen, he started driving coal trucks for his Dad. In later years he had been employed as a surface miner for LaRosa Fuel. Bud’s true passion was horses. He owned and trained them and was a farrier. His favorite horse was “Big Red” and Bud enjoyed participating in Budweiser horse rides with him. Bud loved being a grandparent and it’s said that his grandchildren softened his heart.
