History
Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been serving the Valley Bend and Parsons area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.
On November 15, 2008, Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. opened its doors for business. While funeral home startup businesses have many challenges, Ryan Summerfield, a licensed funeral director, along with his wife, Tate, were ready for the challenge. In a unique and very traditionally-minded business, attracting families to a new funeral home that has not been tested would take time.
Once they had the building and the staff in place, it was time to begin to advertise and wait for the first call. It was three months from opening on February 16, 2009, that Randolph Funeral Home would receive the first call. They would go on to serve 55 families that year which far surpassed the initial expectations.
In early 2010, Mr. Summerfield began receiving calls for pre-arranged services from his home area in Parsons, West Virginia. He decided to investigate the possibility of opening a second location to serve Tucker County as well. The former A&P (also had been the Dollar General) store was vacant, and renovations began. He contacted a former co-worker and licensed funeral director, Kevin Hostetler, and asked if he would be interested in joining him in this venture.
Mr. Hostetler was working with a local funeral home at the time, but felt that a change would be a good thing. In May of 2010, Mr. Hostetler joined the staff of Randolph Funeral Home and the future Summerfield Funeral Home. It was six months later that Summerfield Funeral Home would open on November 8, 2010. On December 3, 2010, the first call was taken.
Mr. Summerfield had advertised and marketed the business of the funeral homes to be accepting of alternative services, especially cremation, as he watched the national trends. It was in February of 2013, that Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. became the only funeral home in Randolph County and the four surrounding counties to have its own human crematory.
On September 14, 2015, Kevin Hostetler and his wife, Joan, bought both Randolph Funeral Home and Summerfield Funeral home. In June of 2016, Summerfield Funeral Home was changed to Hostetler Funeral Home.
